Why kids can’t sit still in school.
In order for your child to learn, they need to be able to pay attention. In order to pay attention, they need to be involved in active play each day.
Over the past decade, more and more children are having attention issues in the classroom. Our students are expected to sit for longer periods of time and are constantly in an upright position for most of the school day. With the restlessness, children are sometimes labeled or become discipline problems and are constantly reminded that their behavior is unacceptable and their self-esteem suffers, all because they need to move more often!
With the popularity of technology and video games, kids are rarely playing outside anymore these days. Recess times have been shortened due to increasing educational demands and even Physical Education classes has been diminished to one class a week for half an hour. Children are not nearly moving enough and it’s a problem with obesity and lack of healthy habits, mainly, getting enough active movement in each day.
In order to develop a strong body core, children need to move their body in all directions for at least an hour a day. Your child needs to be active everyday to improve their core strength, for the school is asking them to sit still and pay attention in class, even though their body wants to move! As a parent, you do not go to the gym just once a week to gain benefits, so neither should your child be active just once or twice a week. Restlessness in class is an indicator that children are not getting enough active play throughout the day. Children need an hour of active outdoor play a day in order to strengthen the body core to support higher-level attention and learning in the classroom.

Why enroll in After-school Fun Fitness?
It is important for children to develop healthy habits early in life that last a lifetime. Establishing a regular schedule for physical activities is a priority. Combining regular exercise with a healthy diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle and it is never too early to start. Kids are now at a higher risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol than at any time in history. This generation of children is the first generation predicted to have a shorter lifespan than their parents. Kids should be active for a minimum of one hour a day to ensure a healthy lifestyle. All MATP programs are designed to assist in achieving this lifestyle.
